The Coach House, Dublin Castle, Dublin 2
As part of the programme around Global Irish Design Challenge exhibition at the Coach House, Dublin Castle, we present a series of design talks, in which two designers are invited to speak about their innovative projects connecting within a common theme. Design for Children brings together Alan Shannon, CCO of JAM Media and Simon Evans, Founder of LittleBig Bikes to speak about their perspectives and approaches to designing for children.
Alan Shannon is the CCO Chief Creative Officer & Co-founder of JAM Media and in this key role he has been responsible for the creative content conceived, animated and produced. Alan directed the original ‘Roy’ series, it’s sequel ‘Roy 02’ and has recently completed directing ‘Roy 03 + 04’. He is also the series director on, the Media funded, ‘Tilly and Friends’, ‘Baby Jake’ and ‘Funky Fables’ series. He directed the award winning preschool animated series ‘PICME’ and was the lead animator on the Academy Award Nominated film ‘Give Up Yer Auld Sins’.
Simon Evans founded LittleBig in Ireland in 2013. As part of a two-person team Simon had completed the first Irish circumnavigation of the globe by bicycle in 2010, involving 30,000km through some some of the highest, driest, remotest, wettest, and hottest places on earth. Simon is also an engineer interested in sustainable design and seeking to create elegant, real-world solutions through careful design and detailing. His experiences in sustainable design, allied with his wealth of bicycle knowledge, propelled him to design and develop the LittleBig adaptable children’s bike.
