ARCHITECTURE / INTERIOR / FURNITURE / RETAIL DESIGN
Irish Design 2015 is partnering with EUNIC Ireland to host leading international designers from Britain, Germany, Italy and Spain to give lectures and masterclasses throughout 2015. EUNIC, the network of European Union national institutes for culture, and members British Council, Goethe-Institut, Instituto Cervantes and Istituto Italiano di Cultura, are partnering with ID2015 to present a wide range of design ideas and practices in Europe from product design to architecture, from fashion to furniture.
As part of this series Goethe Institut Dublin and ID2015 have invited Philip Mainzer, award winning Architect, Product Designer and Founding Director of furniture brand e15 and Philipp Mainzer Office for Architecture and Design, to give a masterclass for an invited group of students of architecture, interior architecture, retail and furniture design from various colleges at St Andrews, Suffolk Street.
12-12.45pm Masterclass Lecture with Philipp Mainzer
Philipp will discuss both his Office for Architecture + Design and his furniture brand e 15 speaking about his two design practices, how the companies work, design approaches, translating concept into reality and giving advice to young designers, followed by a Q&A discussion.
1.30-4pm Masterclass Workshop
Philipp Mainzer will facilitate a workshop with selected students to speculatively investigate the potential of a redevelopment of St. Andrews into a design and innovation hub, allowing for functions such as education and event space, gallery and café, yet paying tribute to the character and history of the existing architecture.
