Irish Design 2015 programmes a diverse and exciting range of family design workshops, which explore the current exhibitions at the ID2015 Design Hub through playful experimentation with materials, techniques and ideas. On the second and last Saturday of every month we invite young makers and their families to take part in hands-on design and crafting workshops starting with a tour of the gallery – specially designed to get you in the mood for creating!
This week, we're reinventing red bricks in this clay-making workshop. Join ceramic designer/maker Kate Murtagh Sheridan in designing and constructing in red terracotta clay to make your own bricks. Taking inspiration from In The Making exhibition, children and families explore ideas of design and making through clay. Press, form, mould and cut brick shapes to build your red brick forms. Then, inspired by making processes and designs of red bricks from around the world, test textures and give your own designed brick an individual look and feel.
Fun family workshops developed to nurture creative thinking, teach design and develop making skills in children these sessions explore ideas within the ID2015 exhibitions, starting with a tour to gather inspiration. These 60 minute hand-on workshops are designed for children of five years old and over with parents/guardians. 10.30am for 5-8 years and 12noon for 9-13 years. Places are limited, to book email: DesignHub@IrishDesign2015.ie.
