Design Bites is a series of informal design, making and innovation lunchtime talks running concurrently with ID2015 core exhibitions. Drop in at lunchtime for 30 mins of fresh thinking and conversation at the Design Hub in Dublin Castle. Connecting with themes within ID2015 exhibitions, Design Bites aims to spark conversation, share ideas and encourage new collaborations. Bring your sandwich and we’ll provide the tea and design ideas to chew on.
This series of Design Bites is programmed to complement ID2015's Platinum exhibition which showcases 32 innovative projects awarded the highest A'Design Awards in 2014/2015. The A’Design Awards aims to highlight, promote and advocate good design, honouring the best designers, architects, engineers, studios, brands and design led companies from across the globe. In this series of lunchtime talks we explore innovative award winning design and the role of awards in recognising and building awareness of excellence in design.

Sean McNulty discusses the Cyc-lok Bicycle Parking System, a Gold A’Design Award winning project designed by Dolmen Design and Innovation Consultancy. Cyc-lok was inspired by the need to find a space-efficient way to manage on-street bicycle storage. Cyc-lok's key design innovation is its unique flat-pack, modular construction system, inspired by the efficiencies of flat-pack furniture. It is manufactured using flat or nesting elements, which can be stored & transported with maximum efficiency and built on site in minutes with no additional processes. This hugely reduces the cost of storage, transport and assembly and results in a highly marketable, globally implementable business model.
29 October - Architecture Factory: Mark O’Riain, Rua Architects & President IDI
Marc O’Riain discusses The Architecture Factory, a Platinum A’Design Award winning project designed in 2013 with RKD Architects. The Architecture Factory houses Cork Institute of Technology’s Interior Architecture and Architectural Technology courses in a former warehouse building.
